Oaths and Illusions

Here we go, this is the sort of thing that makes me want to throw tomatoes at any politician I see.

Karl Rove. If you have read anything that this man has written, you know exactly what his role is in the current administration. Like the quote in one of my favorite movies Payback:

One man… you go high enough you always come to one man…

In this case that man is Karl Rove. So lets look at the offer that the executive branch is giving the legislative. “Sure, we’ll let you ask him some questions. But it can’t be in a public forum, and he won’t be taking any oaths.”

Cause, you know, he won’t lie or anything. Trust us.

The lovely part about this is that they think someone would actually accept this as a good deal. Here, he’ll talk to you, but he can tell you that the Iraqis are actually space aliens with phasers trained directly on DC, and if we don’t continue the war there, they’ll incinerate the Washington Monument and if you find out that he wasn’t telling the truth you can’t prosecute him for perjury cause he didn’t take an oath.

This shouldn’t suprise anyone though. This is the same administration that fabricated intelligence reports on non-existant weapons so they could justify a war.

What twists my shorts is the fact that the fabrication of documents that were a direct justification for war was in the news for 2 days, and CNN is still covering “Who is Anna Nicole baby daddy” a month after her death. I am sure Sargeant Jones at Walter Reed who only has one leg left is glued to the television waiting for the answer.

This move by the executive branch is just the illusion of cooperation, so they can say they offered. What is insulting about that is that they actually thought someone would buy their snake oil.

EDIT: Yeah, exactly what I said. They think they are doing the legislative branch a favor. Buckle up people.

There are — in this particular case, the Department of Justice — the Congress does have legitimate oversight responsibility for the Department of Justice. It created the Department of Justice. It does not have constitutional oversight responsibility over the White House, which is why by our reaching out, we’re doing something that we’re not compelled to do by the Constitution….. Tony Snow (White House Press Secretary)
